In Support Of Presidential Candidate Mohammed Dukuly

On the brink of a people’s revolution in Felmausa-we say hearts-off to Brother Mohammed Dukuly and enjoin all well-meaning compatriots in the United States to cast their lots with this illustrious son of the Mandingo tribe

It has been a little over a decade now since I last saw Brother Mohammed Dukuly in person but this has not stopped me as an individual from making follow-up on the progress of this brilliant young man who was equally on the brink of stardom prior to his fortunate departure from the shore of Mama Liberia.

For some of us who were in grade school just about the same time as Duk, we were indeed proud of his academic and intellectual competencies and his commitment to his tribe, religion, and nation. While in Liberia, he was constantly engaged in activities that brought pride and dignity to all Liberian Mandingoes through his many academic achievements and intellectual performances. Whether in the classroom, on the Academic Challenge Teams of St. Patrick and Cathedral respectively, or at intellectual debates, the Brother was second to none and indeed proved himself worthy of our admiration.

Although as a student of Economics and Political Science, I am quite aware that there are no fixed qualification matrix that can be used at all times and seasons to determine what a perfect or perhaps a good candidate must possess to be worthy of the electorates’ votes, but yet I do know that there are certain qualities, challenges, and characteristics that defines every organization and if one were to look very deeply, one would certainly condensed a set of personality checklist that could be applied in determining what a given leader of said institution must constitute assuming that the achievement of the aims and objectives of the organization are precepts that the entire membership hold dearly and in high esteem.

These leadership qualifications, traits, and characteristics in the context of felmausa would resemble the following:
1. Principle mindedness
2. Proper religious orientation and application
3. Academic, intellectual and professional competencies
4. Vision, foresight, and action-driven
5. Moral rectitude
6. Commitment, tolerance and selflessness
7. Humility, reason and sacrifice
8. Personality and charisma
9. Resourceful, amiable and consensus-driven, and
10. Volunteering and a having faith in the collectives/mass

Having laid down our yardstick upon which we must judge others and equally be judged upon ourselves, permit us now to lay bare why we think Comrade Dukuly is the best and most appropriate candidate for felmausa at this critically important juncture of this nascent ,but cardinal organization’s history.

In the first instance, Brother Dukuly is a man of an unwavering integrity that would serve as a tower of support in times of both peace and adversity. I say this because this brother has been tested before and certainly demonstrated his oneness of purpose. Hear this, sometime back in Liberia without any insight of the foreseeable future; Brother Dukuly was confronted with a situation that tested his abiding faith in both Islam and his tribe. Having exhibited such exceptional academic and intellectual brilliance at both Cathedral and St. Patrick, an offer was made to him by some of his prelate instructors that the Church was prepared to take him as its child and would be responsible for both his academic and spiritual growth provided he could exchange Islam with Christianity.

This brother stood his ground and refused to be lured into this favour-seeking indulgence that I know some others seeking greener pasture in Taylor’s Liberia would have opted for, but Dukuly chose to remain what Allah in the first instance made him to be -a devout Muslim that believe in predestination and hence accepted his low level at the time.

As already mentioned by Brother Mohammed Kamara, Mr. Dukuly is a deeply religious young man who through parental blessings did not allow his love for western education to deny him from drinking from the rich knowledge fountain of the Holy Koran and the Hadiths of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Even before his departure for the United States, Duk used to offer his Koranic skills to all those who needed his assistance in attempting to read and understand this Great Book of all times. With this religious understanding and orientation, felmausians can be assured that religiously they would be in safer hands with Comrade Dukuly at the helm of this great organization.

On the question of academic, intellectual and professional competencies, let me poignantly say that this brother is indeed a “scholastica maximus”-a maximum scholar and an intellectual par excellence whose presidency will further serve as an impetus in encouraging young people in the community to espouse for greatness through academic and other legitimate means, if we as a people are ever going to cement our relationship as a nation as well as help improve the living conditions of our people here in Liberia. As for his professional qualification, currently he is one of the best who has been to Wall Street and back, and I think the members of Felmausa can rest assure that their collective treasury this time around is going to be in accountable and transparent hands that will not have to delay financial and performance reports on the flimsy and shaky grounds that they are not being asked for and so should not be given. This brother is quite cognizant of the fact that financial transparency, accountability and probity are indeed the hallmark of a responsive, accountable and matured leadership.

This brings me to the recent stand-off between the board and the presidency, wherein the request for a complete financial report was being overly politicized and blown out of proportion for reasons that hold the mind as prisoner. As an outsider who has followed with keen and utmost interest the activities and progress of this organization since its establishment, I was left deeply frustrated by the thesis and antithesis provided by both the presidency and the board. That the Richmond Konneh leadership for two consecutive years failed to provide well abridged financial statements of accounts to the entire membership via the board is tantamount to bad governance and absolute recklessness. For the argument to be posited that because the allegedly inept board failed to do its work and in the process fell short of requesting for year-end report is no justification for a people-oriented leadership to keep its subjects and custodians in perpetual darkness.

Don’t you think it would have been only proper and befitting had the leadership, having understood the comatose state of the board, done the most responsible and honorable thing by first submitting its financial reports and then forwarding a formal complaint to the organization’s membership with regards to the out-going board’s demonstration of poor leadership and utter lack of interest in the welfare of the people’s organization? I think had this being done ,some of those currently positioning themselves for a re-run would not have seen the light of day, less to talk about chances of either winning or not winning.

But to justify one wrong with another wrong is quite illogical and totally unacceptable, and as aspiring future leaders of both our community and country, we should desist from this style of leadership that is poor at performance and good at grand-standing. Less we be mis-understood, we are not in any way implying that the out-going leadership has not performed to the best of its abilities; out of which have emerged some positive initiatives such as the current website project, the establishment of new chapters among others, but on this one, they made a serious blunder that has overshadowed most of their other achievements.

This is because Felmausa will be no Felmausa in the truest sense of the word if its leadership were to be found wanting in transparency, accountability and fiscal probity. Without properly accounting for members’ hard earned money, Felmausa in no time will become an empty frame or at best a passenger car-which no travelling passenger intends to board even though the car looks physically appealing on the outside, but in effect is technically rotten inside (duazeh) and will certainly not reach you to your desired destination due to engine failure.
For the purpose of brevity and conciseness, let us inform you that with regards to the remaining checklist, the comrade Mohammed Dukuly indeed possesses all of the aforementioned qualifications and as president of Felmausa, will use these fine qualities of his to take Felmausa to nobler heights-Insha Allah.

May we hasten to add that our support for brother Dukuly must not be perceived as a PR for this astute gentleman, rather we wish this article to be seen as an eye-opener for those who don’t actually know the man-Mohammed Dukuly especially as regards his dealings and engagements in Liberia prior to his departure for the United States of America. Even though, people are at liberty to think what they want to believe, but we are of the view that it is always better to give credit where credit is due most particularly in times like these when the electorates of this great denominator need to know all there is, in order for them to choose the best among the rest.

For those who have already tasted leadership of Felmausa and at length serve its membership, we say thank you also for all that you have done over these last two years for this great institution that you our fathers, mothers uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, cousins and nephews have put together in the Diaspora for your own good and that of our own, as we look forward to you guys for guidance, leadership, support as well as opportunities geared towards championing the rights, survival and dignity of all Liberian Mandingoes.

Personal Plead to Dukuly:

We will pray that you succeed in this endeavour and this path that you’ve chosen. Though not being an augur, we know the love you have for our people and are confident that guided by Almighty Allah, you will be able to take our dear Felmausa to newer levels by infusing a new kind of dynamism and hope in this unifying entity of Liberian Mandingoes in the Americas.

Let us now request that upon your ascendency to the throne, we Liberian Mandingo youth humbly request that you prioritize a fact finding trip to Liberia so that in the next two years to come, your leadership will be au fait with the challenges, progress and struggles currently being experienced by our people. This will guide you in knowing what is to be done back home in terms of unity, reconciliation, education, Civic education, human rights, SMEs initiatives among many others.

Sometimes, listening to friends in high places, family members in Liberia and the likes do not give us a true and clearer picture of events back home.

Electorates of felmausa be smart, vote wisely for your vote is your power!
It is not enough to dream for dream sake, but it is better to add dream to hope and is best when dream plus hope is multiply by action to derive at reality.
